FAQs

What does a session look like?

Great question! After all you want to get an idea of how this process looks. Sessions may vary depending which type of service you request. For both Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and Recovery Coaching services we will begin with an intake session where we will review things like history, medical conditions, current life stressors, background information, and goals. From there things get a bit different.

For MNT follow up sessions we will focus mainly on nutrition and associated behaviors/struggles with food. Things we may discuss include but are not limited to: daily intake, fear foods, medical complications, medical and health goals, meal plans, barriers to eating, etc. For Recovery Coaching, follow up sessions will pertain more specifically to how an individual feels in their recovery, what situations have arisen making them disconnect from their goals, and what supports would be helpful to provide to meet said goals. With both services there will be some overlap, but the main focus of MNT is nutrition goals and the main focus of Recovery Coaching is supporting the goals already created with a dietitian.

What if I want to lose weight?

This is an often asked question and for good reason! Being a HAES® aligned provider does not mean that I am anti-weight loss. I prefer to rather describe myself as non-diet. Plenty of clients may still desire weight loss for a variety of very valid reasons. This is the place where we can explore all sides of that coin together. Yes, I am non-diet but I also recognize the anti-fat society we unfortunately all exist in. Weight loss is not a negative thing on its own; it is when we look deeper at why that weight loss occurred that we may uncover some maladaptive behaviors or disordered views surrounding food and bodies that require attention and healing.

How do I know if insurance covers medical nutrition therapy?

Note to Self Nutrition LLC is in network with Aetna and Cigna plans. At this time it remains an out of network provider for other national plans. Please refer to our Insurance Guide and these blog posts for further details regarding this question. You will need to speak with your insurance provider about your specific plan and its associated benefits for medical nutrition therapy.

How does payment work?

Payment is due at the time of service. When scheduling you will be asked to provide a credit card/FSA/HSA/debit card to place on file for billing.
